Rotary Club of Kampala Kibuli joins forces with NBS to combat Sickle Cell disease

In a landmark collaboration, the Rotary Club of Kampala Kibuli has teamed up with the Uganda Sickle Cell Foundation and NBS Television to address the pressing issue of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in Uganda.

This partnership marks a concerted effort to raise awareness, enhance education, and uplift the lives of individuals impacted by this genetic condition.

Sickle Cell Disease affects a significant portion of Uganda's population, with approximately 20% carrying the sickle cell trait and over 25,000 babies born annually with the disease.

Beyond the medical challenges, those living with SCD often face stigma and misconceptions within their communities.

The joint initiative will focus on several key areas

Engaging the public through targeted campaigns to dispel myths, raise understanding, and encourage early screening.

Education and training providing essential training for healthcare professionals to improve diagnosis, treatment, and support for patients and families.

Community outreach and screening programs taking proactive steps to reach underserved communities with screening services, promoting early detection and intervention.

Support services

Offering assistance and resources to individuals and families affected by SCD, fostering a supportive network and ensuring access to necessary care.

The Rotary Club of Kampala Kibuli expressed its dedication to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by SCD.
